Admission for PhD in Management (Practice Track) 2019
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode invites applications for its prestigious PhD Programme (Practice Track) in Management.
The applications are invited for the following areas of specialization:

Academic Eligibility
One of the following qualifications is required as basic eligibility:
- Post-Graduate degree or equivalent in any discipline (including M.A, M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Tech., PGDM, EPGDM etc.) with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
- Graduation along with Professional qualifications of CA, ICWA and CS with at least 50% marks or equivalent.
- Professional qualifications such as MBBS and LLB with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
Work Experience Eligibility
Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years full-time work experience after graduation.
Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Persons-with-Disabilities will be given a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks requirement.
Additional eligibility criteria for the Strategic Management Area:
- The Strategic Management Area would have a minimum work experience of 15 years (full time) after graduation. The experience of heading a business unit or company or a large department or functional division/unit is preferred.
- Participants would submit letters of recommendation from Senior Leadership along with their application.
Selection: Candidates will be short listed on the recommendation of respective areas based on their Profile. Such candidates will be invited for a Personal Interview (and/or Written Test for selected areas if any) at IIM Kozhikode. Accommodation will be available to the candidates (on concessional rate) inside campus for attending the interviews
How to apply
Candidates are required to apply online. They can apply to a maximum of two areas of specialization. An application fee of Rs.1000/- is required which has to be remitted online through the link provided with the application form. Scanned copies of all academic mark-sheets, and category certificate are to be uploaded alongwith the online application form. Two referee recommendations about the candidate are required to complete the formal submission of application. The recommendation letter can be submitted online by the referee directly to IIMK and the link for online submission will be provided to the referee to his/her email id.

The PhD in Management (Practice Track) of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) provides rigorous, world-class, inter-disciplinary training in different areas of business management to equip students with the ability to conduct cutting-edge research of international standard. The executive participants of this programme enrich business knowledge armed with their industry experience and academic exposure.
The aim of the programme is to help industry executives explore research based careers at both academic institutions as well as research roles in public/private sector organizations.

Curriculum
PhD in Management (Practice Track) at IIMK has two phases: course work and thesis research. The first year divided into Terms 0, 1 and 2 covers the course work. The participant begins her/his work towards thesis reseach in the second year after qualifying the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination.

- Term 0 (tentatively July – September) is optional for participants with a PGDM/EPGDM/MBA degree/diploma but compulsory for all others.
- All courses in Term 0 are compulsory.
- Philosophy of Management and Research Methodology are compulsory in Term I. Participants must join in any two of the three courses of Econometrics, Multivariate Analysis and Qualitative Research in Term I.
- Classes will be conducted in the IIMK campus. The participants have an attendance requirement of 50%.
- In Term 0 (tentatively July-September), the two visits would consist of 10 and 12 days respectively.
- In Term 1 (tentatively, October-March), the participants are expected to undertake three visits. Each visit would be for a period of 8 days starting Saturday of a week to ending on a Sunday of week.
- In Term 2 (tentatively April-September), the participants are expected to make two to three visits ranging from 12 days to 24 days altogether.
- During the coursework, campus accommodation will be provided by the Institute.
Second Year
Area Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE)
Successful completion of the first phase requires passing the Area Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE) to proceed to the second phase of programme. In the second phase participants undertake thesis research work with a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) which comprises three faculty members. The RAC Chair must be from the chosen area.
Visits to the Campus
From the second year onwards till submission of the draft thesis, the participants are expected to make regular visits. A minimum of four days of visit in a quarter is mandated. However, the participant/RAC has the flexibility to convert the quarterly mandated visits into a single visit every semester.
Main Research Problem
From the second year onwards, after satisfactory completion of the CQE, the participant will start working on the main research problem of the PhD thesis. The participant must submit a progress report forwarded by the RAC chairperson during the registration each term.
Third Year Onwards
The participant should present an Open Proposal Seminar on the research problem. The participant is also expected to work towards presenting a paper at a conference and/or making one publication.
The participant will present the draft thesis in an open seminar, called Pre-submission Seminar, after the RAC clears the draft for the same. Thesis will be modified based on comments received from the RAC and the audience of the seminar. The duly modified draft thesis may be submitted for evaluation.
Progamme Fees
The total fee for the course is Rs. 6,50,000/- (Rupees Six Lakh Fifty Thousand only).
The fee may be paid in the following two instalments:
- Acceptance fee Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) non-refundable
- The balance of Rs. 6,00,000/- (Rupees Six Lakh only) before commencement of the first class.
For the participants attending term zero courses, the fee may be paid in the following three instalments:
- Acceptance fee Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) non-refundable
- The second instalment of Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh only) payable before commencement of the first class in term zero.
- The third instalment of Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh only) payable before commencement of the first class in term one.

- Candidates will have to pay Rs. 250/- towards campus accommodation when they visit campus without any classes.
Re-registration Fee: If the participant fails to submit by the fifth year, s/he will have to pay a re-registration fee of Rs. 2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh only) for completing the programme in the sixth and the seventh year. Beyond the seventh year, the candidate shall cease to be part of the programme.
