Centre for Distance Education – North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU)
The Objective of Distance Mode of Education shall be to offer courses to students who are desirous of further education through various modes of distance learning systems. The thrust of the Centre for Distance Education is to provide need and region based course for all those who have been deprived of getting education. North–Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 1st December 2005 to collaborate in promoting education for the empowerment of the persons with disability. The Centre for Distance Education has initially started the following three programmes duly approved by Academic Council for the Teacher Preparation in Special Education.
- B.Ed Special Education(B.Ed-SEDE)
- Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Special Education (PGPD-SEDE)
- Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities (FC-SEDE)
Presently the Centre the Centre for Distance Education is offering only Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities and the B.Ed Special Education and Post Graduate Professional Diploma in Special Education Programmes are kept on hold in order to implement revised norms, regulation and syllabus of Rehabilitation Council of India which were submitted to 94th meeting of Academic Council held on 13th October 2015 and the council resolved to approve the same ( vide Academic Council resolution No. AC: 94:2015:5: i (v).

Distance education courses that require a physical on-site presence for any reason including the taking of examinations is considered to be a blended course of study.
This emerging technology is becoming widely used in universities and institutions around the globe. With the recent trend of technological advance, distance learning is becoming more recognized for its potential in providing individualized attention and communication with students internationally.
