Eligibility Criteria for NIT Arunachal Pradesh PhD Admission 2020
Engineering Departments

 

Master’s Degree in Engineering /Technology in the relevant area of research along with Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology with first class or minimum 60% Marks (or CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or equivalent) at Master’s and Bachelor’s level.
Final year Master’s Degree students whose result is awaited may also apply, provided they should produce original mark sheet/grade card during interview.
Science Department Master’s Degree in appropriate branch of Science with a first class or minimum 60% marks (or CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or equivalent at Master’s level).

 

Selection Procedure
Selection will be done through written test/personal interview by respective departments.

Eligibility Criteria for NIT Silchar PhD Admission 2020

Engineering Departments

M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent with GATE / NET qualification in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks).
B.E./B.Tech. with an excellent academic record with valid GATE score and with a CPI of at least 8.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks).
For graduates from IITs/NITs, the minimum CPI requirement is 7.0 (on a 10 point scale).
For SC/ST/PwD candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CPI or 5% of the marks.
 

Science Departments

Master degree in a relevant discipline with a GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET score for admission with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
For SC/ ST/ PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks) with a GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET score for admission.
Management Studies Departments Master’s degree in Business Administration or Master’s degree in Engineering /Technology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
For SC / ST / PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks). A score in NET / GATE / UGC is required for all.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Department Master’s degree in any field with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60 % of marks) or Master degree in other disciplines with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60 % of marks).
For SC / ST/ PwD candidates, a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55 % of marks). A score in NET / GATE / UGC is required for all.

Eligibility Criteria for MSSV Nagaon M.Phil and PhD Admission 2020
M. Phil Post-graduate Examination of this University or any other University/Institute recognised as equivalent by this University securing a minimum of 55% marks in the subject in which he/she intends to pursue the course.
5% marks in the eligibility norms shall be relaxed for the candidates of the reserved category.
Ph.D Post-graduate degree (Master degree) from any recognized University Institute with at least 55% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA).
5% of marks in the eligibility norms shall be relaxed for the candidates of the reserved category Abovenoted rules will also be applicable to overseas candidates who have obtained a master’s degree from the statutory Indian/ foreign Universities.
For Foreign Students 55% marks in the Master Degree or equivalent GPA, and relevant Passport and Visa, may be considered, subject to the ratification of the Vice-Chancellor.
During the pendency of the Ph.D., programme the candidate will not pursue any other parallel programme or course outside the programme.

 

Selection Process
Selection of candidates for admission shall be made on the basis of the MSSVRAT.
MSSVRAT shall comprise of two parts Written Test
Viva Voce
Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (JRF/UGC-CSIR including SLET/Gate) or passed M.Phil. Degrees in the concerned subject are exempted from the written examination
However, they shall have to appear in the Viva-voce examination.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The candidates for Ph.D. Programme may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below:
  2. Engineering and Technology: Master Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI equivalent to 60% of marks as per conversion formula prescribed by the University/Institute. OR
  3. Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Technology or MSc/MCA (wherever applicable) in related areas with an excellent academic record, with a CPI equivalent to 70% of marks as per conversion formula prescribed by the University/Institute with valid GATE score.
  4. Those Candidates who qualify GATE will be given preference.
  5. Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics): Master Degree in Science in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI equivalent to 60% of marks as per conversion formula prescribed by the University/Institute with NET or valid GATE score.

Reservation – Reservation for SC/ST/OBC is applicable as per Govt. of India rules.

Indian Institute of Management Shillong Admission 2020 – PhD (Full-time) Doctoral Programme in Management

The full time Doctoral Programme in Management (PhD) of IIM Shillong is meant for scholars with curiosity in knowledge related to management studies. It is planned as a rigorous and inter-disciplinary research programme in all areas of management. The programme is committed to train individuals who will excel in their respective area as educators/practitioners and produce high quality research through publication of quality work of international standard.

Doctoral programme of IIM Shillong aims at creating dedicated researchers and scholars who would explore the critical issues in management, identify opportunities for new frameworks and form new insights. The programme offers opportunities for carrying out advanced interdisciplinary research in all fields of management education and practice.

PhD (full time) Programme Outline

The participant is expected to spend four years for PhD (full time) program that includes two years of rigorous course work. The coursework aims at providing an understanding of management disciplines, building theoretical foundations in the core area, develop basic skills for analyzing managerial problems and instill research interest. The coursework is expected to provide the participant with the platform for future research activities. The participant is evaluated through a Comprehensive Examination after the successful completion of course work; the doctoral dissertation period begins only after the participant successfully clearing the comprehensive examination. From third year onwards, the doctoral dissertation work provides the participant with an opportunity to make original contribution to an area of management in
general or to one of its disciplines.

Eligibility:

Candidates should have:
 A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 60% aggregate Marks/equivalent CGPA for General Candidates (including EWS), 55% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for SC/ST Candidates.
Or
  CA, ICWA/CMA or CS with B. Com /similar degree.

 Additionally, each applicant needs to qualify Secondary, Higher Secondary and Graduation Examination with minimum 60% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for General Candidates, 50% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for SC/ST Candidates.

Test Scores:

Candidates require a valid test score either of GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE, or JRF (NET) score to be considered for admission. Candidates should mandatorily provide the score card as applicable to the test taken.
a) GMAT Applicants: Applicants who have taken GMAT may upload/submit a copy of their official GMAT scores along with the application. Applicants who have not received the official score card from GMAC, should upload/submit the TEST TAKER COPY along with the application, but submit the OFFICIAL SCORE CARD before the interviews.
b) GRE Applicants: Applicants who have taken the GRE may upload/submit a copy of their GRE scores along with the application. Applicants who have not received the official score card from ETS, should upload/submit the TEST TAKER COPY along with the application, but submit the OFFICIAL SCORE CARD before the interviews.
c) CAT Applicants: They should provide their CAT 2018/ 2019 registration number in the online application. The CAT 2018, 2019 scores made available to IIM Shillong will be used in the assessment of the application.
d) GATE Applicants: Applicants who have taken the GATE may upload/submit a copy of their GATE score card along with the application. Applicants who appear for GATE 2020 should upload/submit the admit card along with the online application, but submit the SCORE CARD before the interviews.
e) JRF (NET): Applicants who have qualified for award of JRF (NET) can also apply within the validity of JRF (NET), and upload/submit the relevant documents. 

Selection Process:

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria stated above and who cleared either of the CAT (2018/2019), GATE, GRE, GMAT and JRF (UGC/CSIR) examinations till 27th January 2020 can apply for the full-time doctoral program. All scores must be valid as on 27th January 2020.

Short-listed candidates (on the basis of their academic record and performance in the competitive examinations mentioned above) will be called for an evaluation/personal interview for final selection. The successful candidates will receive offers to join the course by May 2020. 

Admission to the programme is open to overseas candidates including NRIs and foreign nationals. Their admission will be based on GMAT/GRE scores which are valid till 27th January 2020.

Reservation:

Reservation for eligible categories will be as per Government of India rules (as applicable to IIM Shillong) for the full time doctoral programme at the time of admission.

Duration of the Programme and Accommodation:

Scholars are expected to complete the programme in four years. However, under special circumstances, extension of one more year may be granted if approved by the competent authority. No financial support will however be provided beyond fourth year. PhD scholars will spend their the first two years for course work and the last two years for research and thesis preparation. PhD (full time) is a residential programme.

Hostel facility is available for all the PhD (full time) students; however, family accommodation is currently not available.

Financial Support:
Candidates selected for the full time Doctoral Programme are given a financial support which covers their research requirements and modest living.

Expenses:

Students have to pay the following expenses:
1. Caution Deposit (refundable): Rs.10,000/-*
2. Mess Charges: As per actuals.
* This is a onetime fee payable during the time of Registration.

A candidate is eligible to submit applications to a maximum of two areas. The process of filing application is to be done in two parts:
1. The application form (available for download from the link below) should be filled up and submitted online. The form should be opened using Acrobat Reader only and submitted by clicking on “Submit Form” Button available on top right of the screen. (Click Here to download Adobe Reader). No photograph needs to be attached on the online submitted form.

If the candidate’s computer is configured with a mail client, the form will get submitted on clicking the “Submit Form” button. In case the candidate is using web mail accounts like Gmail, Hotmail, etc., the “Submit Form” button will allow the candidate to save the form and attach it to a mail. In such case, the attachment should be sent to phd@iimshillong.ac.in

The candidates are requested to be careful while filling in the form and to check the same before submitting it. In case any candidate submits the form more than once, the first such submission will only be considered.

2. The candidates should take a print of the online form before submitting the same. If the candidate is applying for two areas, two copies must be printed. The printed copy (ies) of the online application form, one for each area, with a recent photograph pasted and with all supporting documents (including self-attested copies of mark sheet and certificates of all public examinations starting from 10th, experience certificate, relevant score card, age proof, etc.) attached separately with each form will have to be sent together in one envelop. The envelope containing the filled in application with all required documents should be clearly superscribed “Application for PhD (fulltime) program 2020)”. Minimum Qualification for admission to Ph.D programme:-

A) Candidates for admission in Ph.D programme in Engineering Departments must satisfy one of the following criteria:-

I. Master’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 point grading system or equivalent 65% of marks (CGPA x 10). Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

II. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/ Technology from a centrally funded Technical
Institute with an excellent academic record and with a CGPA of at least 9.0 out of 10
point grading system or equivalent 90% of marks (CGPA x 10). Candidates must have valid GATE score tenable for the year of admission.

III. Master’s Degree in relevant science discipline with a good academic record and of
exceptional m6rit are eligible for relevant engineering discipline with minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 point grading system or more or at least 65 % of marks (CGPA x 10).

Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

*** Conversion of CGPA to percentage and vice-versa will not be allowed.

B) Admission to Ph.D programme in Science Department must satisfy one of the following criteria:-

I. Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and with a minimum of 65 % marks (or equivalent or 6.5 CGPA in a 10 point grading system) or 60oh of marks (6.0 CGPA out of 10 point grading system) {CGPA x 101 with a GATE score or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM tenable for the year of admission. Preference will be given to GATE/NET qualified candidates.

II. Master’s degree in trngineering/Technology or equivalent academic record with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 equivalent or 65% of marks (CGPA x 10). Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates.

III. B.Tech/ B.E, degree from a centrally funded technical institute in India with a minimum CGPA of 9.0 in a 10.0 point scale or equivalent of 90%o (CGPA x 10) of marks with a valid GATE score .

C) Admission to Ph.D programme in Humanities & Social Sciences under the Department of Management, Humanities & Social Sciences:-

Scholars for admission to the Ph.D. program in Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) must have a Masters degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 650/o marks or equivalent or 6.5 CGPA in a 10 point grading system or 60Yo marks or 6.0 CGPA out of 10 (CGPA x 10) with a UGC/CSIR-NETAIBHM tenable for the year of admission. The relevant discipline of research will be English / Economics / Rural Management & Development. Preference will be given to NET qualified candidates.

D) Admission to Ph.D programme in Management under the Department of Management, Humanities & Social Sciences:-

I. MBA/P.G. Diploma in Management of Z-year duration with 65Yo marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale(CGPA x 10). Preference will be given to GATE, / NET qualified candidates.
*** Conversion of CGPA to percentage and vice-versa will not be allowed.

Institute Employees/Research Scholars under External Registration / Research scholars working under part-time category.
For Research Scholars of this categories, the minimum educational qualifications are the same-as prescribed in A to D above for admission to the Ph.D. program in the respective categories. However, GATE score or CSIR / UGC JRF or Lectureship / NBHM / JMET / CAT / AIMA or equivalent qualification as applicable for regular full time research scholars may not be required in these cases

Admission to Ph.D programme for foreign scholars:-

Foreign nationals can only register as regular fuIl-time scholars. Foreign nationals with degree from Indian Universities will be treated at par with Indian nationals for admission purposes. Foreign nationals with foreign degrees must meet the minimum educational requirements as given in A to D above and equivalent to an Indian Master’s degree in the relevant disciplines. In addition, they phould have a valid GRE/ GMAT /GATE /JMET/ CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ ATMA/ UGC or CSIRA{ET and a score in TOEFL/IELTS or equivalent examination.

The portal is compatible to Mozilla Firefox. Candidates are advised to use Mozilla Firefox browser only.
Multiple programmes may be applied by the applicant. Separate registration and
application fee is required for each programme.
After registration, Application ID (to be used as login namg) with Password will be sent to the email ID provided by the applicant.
Using the login credential, applicants must login to the Admission Portal for form filling.
Application fees must be paid only by online payment portal from this site.
After completion and submission of the online form, filled in form in PDF format will be generated.
On the day of interview and or written test, the shortlisted candidates should bring a
printed copy of the on-line filled-in form along with all the original of the necessary
documents ( to support all educational qualification, date of birth, category, GATEA/NET score and if any etc.) and a set of photocopy of all such documents, duly self attested.
The exact time and venue for Ph.D interview will be notified along with the list of the
shortlisted candidates.

Important Note

o The scanned copy of Class l0 certificate (as Name and Age proof), Last Qualifying
Degree Mark-sheet (as eligibility proof) and Caste Certificate (if applicable) must be
uploaded on the portal. Other relevant documents shall be submitted along with the printed form on the day of interview.

Selection Procedure:-
On submission of online application the candidates fulfilling eligibility conditions will be short-listed. The short-listed candidates will be required to report for written test and interview to the concerned department. Selection will be made on the basis of performance of the candidates in the written test and interview and availability of seats.

  • Reimbursement of Travel Fare by Train: For attending PhD interview, the Regular Category candidates shall be provided reimbursement of travel expenses at the rate of to-and-fro sleeper class railway fare or equivalent (as per IIT Guwahati’s travel reimbursement rules).
  • Limiting Number of Candidates for the Selection Process: The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test and/or interview/ portfolio review, if required, based on performance in GATE/ NET/ CEED/ INSPIRE, grades/ marks in the qualifying degree examination, etc.
  • Candidates who are in Final Semester of Qualifying Degree: Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 23-12-2019. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations latest by 31-01-2020. PhD (Working Professionals) at IIM Shillong is an unique doctoral programme in management for working professionals that envisages to expand the research frontiers of working professionals. This doctoral programme aims to produce graduates skilled in research with both a theoretical and practical understanding of the complex problems facing today’s organizations and management professionals. This programme also provides its participants with an excellent opportunity to contribute to the field of management sciences by offering an interdisciplinary and holistic perspective to defining and solving management related problems in the following domains of management:

PhD (Working Professionals) will be able to attain the following learning goals:

Eligibility

Candidates should have:

  • Masters’ degree and at least 5 years of professional experience as on the last day of application. (Experience Certificate or Pay Slips would be required as proof). No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current employer is required at the time of Personal Interview.
  • Graduation with minimum 55% aggregate marks for General Candidates. 5% relaxation will be given to reserved category candidates.
  • A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks, 5% relaxation will be given to reserved category candidates.

OR

  • Graduation along with Professional qualifications of CA, ICWA and CS with at least 55% marks or equivalent.

The above qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 or, recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Test Scores and its Validity

IIM Shillong will consider valid scores of GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE or JRF (NET) for
admission to PhD (WP) program. Valid score need to be entered while filling the application form.
The following categories of candidates are to be exempted from standard tests stated above but will be required to produce two reference letters from senior leadership.
A. Graduates of PGP programs (2 year fulltime) of IIMs or reputed institutions with CGPA 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent (minimum 5 years of post PGP experience).
OR
B. Government employees of Central/ State/ Civil Services/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies with more than 10 years of administrative experience.
OR
C. Teachers from institutions of higher education with last qualification from a reputed institution and minimum 10 years of teaching experience with proven research acumen.
OR
D. Individuals with at least 10 years of rich managerial experience from the nongovernment sector.

Admission Process for PhD Programme (Working Professionals) 2020

Candidates eligible as above, will be shortlisted based on recommendations of the appropriate committee. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for personal interview (and /or written test /video conferencing if necessary) for final selection at a location decided by IIM Shillong.

Programme Fee

  • The total fee for the course is Rs. 5,50,000/-(Rs. Five Lakh Fifty Thousand only) + GST extra.
  • Acceptance fee Rs.50,000/-(Rs. Fifty Thousand only) non-refundable + GST extra payable.
  • Rs 2,50,0000/-(Rs. Two Lakh Fifty only) + GST extra payable before commencement of the programme in the academic year into which the participant is selected for admission.

Programme Duration

The minimum commitment to the programme is 3 years, but candidates are expected to complete the programme in four years and ensure that they complete the requirements of the programme within this stipulated time. In case candidate is not able to complete the programme in four years, they can be given two extensions of 6 months each depending upon their progress.

 

Curriculum and Course Work

During the coursework, classes will be held in IIM Shillong campus. Accommodation and fooding charges will be extra if Campus accommodation is available and is availed by a candidate. The on-campus course work will have three modules in the first year and one module in the second year. First year courses will be having 9 credits distributed over three modules named:-
 Fundamental Courses in Management – I (Module I)
 Fundamental Courses in Management – II (Module II)
 Fundamental Courses in Managerial Research (Module III)

In the second year there will be 3 credits of course work.

  • Advanced Courses in Managerial Research (Module IV)

For the batch commencing from June 2020:-

  • In Module I (tentatively June 2020), one visit of 14- 21 days
  • In Module II (tentatively Nov-Dec 2020), one visit of 14-21 days
  • In Module III (tentatively June 2021), one visit of 14-21days
  • In Module IV (tentatively Nov- Dec 2021), one visit of 14-21 days

For the batch commencing from January 2021:-

  • In Module I (tentatively January-February 2021), one visit of 14- 21 days
  • In Module II (tentatively June-July 2021), one visit of 14-21 days
  • In Module III (tentatively January- February 2022), one visit of 14-21days
  • In Module IV (tentatively June-July 2022), one visit of 14-21 days

Schedules will be intimated to the students tentatively one month before the start of each module. All course are compulsory. The participants must have a minimum attendance of 60%.

During Module III, the candidate in consultation with the PhD Chairperson/Committee will be required to initiate the process of formation of his/her Thesis Supervisory Committee (TSC) as per the laid down norms of the Institute.

COMPREHENSIVE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (CQE)

After the completion of the requirement the candidate needs to qualify the
Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE) to proceed to the second phase of the programme.

The candidate who do not qualify the exam shall be given a second chance to qualify for the second phase.

The candidate will be required to obtain an overall CGPA of 2.2 or above for clearing the Course work in (Term I, II and III).

Second Year

After successful completion of the course work the participant will start working on the main research problem of the PhD thesis under the guidance of his/her TSC.

S/he will start preparing a proposal under the guidance of his/her TSC. From the second year onwards after successful completion of all the four module still submission of the draft thesis, the participants are expected to make regular visits. A minimum of four days of visit to the institute in a quarter is mandated.

The participant must submit progress report forwarded by the TSC chairperson to the programme office every six months.

Third Year Onwards

The participants are also expected to work towards presenting papers at a
conference and/or making publications in research journals approved by the
institute.

The participants will present the draft thesis in an open seminar, called Presubmission Seminar, after the TSC clears the draft for the same. The draft
Thesis will be modified based on comments received from the TSC and the audience of the public seminar.

The candidate will have to defend the thesis and then submits the duly modified thesis for evaluation. Once evaluated, the candidate will have to defend the Thesis before the examiners to be eligible for the award of the degree.
