Assam University, Silchar

Assam University is a central public university located at Silchar, Assam, India. It was founded in the year 1994 by the provisions of an act enacted by the Parliament of India.
The university has sixteen schools which offer Humanities, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Technology and Management Studies. There are 42 departments under these sixteen schools.
The six districts of South Assam, viz, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, North Cachar Hills or Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong district and West Karbi Anglong district under the jurisdiction of Assam University have 73 undergraduate colleges as of 31 March 2020.
Assam University is an institutional signatory to the Global Universities Network for Innovation (GUNI), Barcelona and United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) for its commitment to educational social responsibilities.
Assam University is the second Central University of Assam after Tezpur University. Both were established in 1994. The main campus, in an area of 600 acres (2.4 km2), is located at outskirt of Silchar, while a second campus, Diphu Campus, has an area of 90 acres, in Diphu, Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Government Dental College, Silchar is a government dental college of Assam. It was established in 2018 by Government of Assam. The college offers 5 year full-time degree course of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). The college is affiliated under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. It is recognized by Dental Council of India.

The college offers 5 year full-time undergraduate degree course of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). The admission into the BDS course is based on NEET. Courses Bachelor of Dental Surgery – 50 seat per year.

All the courses are under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. The first academic session started from 12th September 2018.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya was established at Eraligool in the district of Karimganj by the Government of Assam with the financial assistance from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The government initiative to establish the college was to provide quality higher education compatible to one available in the best institutes of the country along with a distinct focus on science education, which is affordable and accessible to all section of the society.

The college came into existence through continuous effort of the Department of Higher Education and the RUSA, the institution has finally been able to open the gate of the institution to the first batch of students from the academic year 2017-2018.

The college is located at Eraligool, about 25 km from Karimganj town. The college has an infrastructure built on a sprawling campus spreading over 30 bighas of land. The serene campus of the college will have the best of ambience including well stock library, digital classrooms, up to date laboratories conducive for teaching, learning and research along with residential facilities for college staff and girls students.

A galaxy of highly qualified dedicated faculties will put their best efforts to impart education along with continuous monitoring of students for their overall improvement.

The Mahavidyalaya offers Higher Secondary courses (10+2) in Science Stream under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati and Bachelor of Science course under Assam University, Silchar, in as many as six Science subjects, viz. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology and Statistics along with English and Bengali. The college has an ambitious plan to introduce several Skill Development courses in the years to come

The necessary infrastructure of the Mahavidyalaya such as academic buildings and laboratories for running Science courses at the Honours and Pass course level is complete. Amidst the ongoing academic activities, infrastructural development in terms of residential complexes for the teaching and non-teaching staff, Girls’ Hostel, canteen, boundary wall, etc. is going on in full swing.

Taking a note of the New Education Policy of the Government of India, PDUAM is striving to promote skill-based knowledge, inclusive growth of education, participatory culture and value oriented approach in addition to its regular courses in near future.

Barak Valley Engineering College was established in 2017 by Assam Government at Karimganj district, Assam.

The college starts to offer B.E. degree in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from academic year 2017-18. The college is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institution is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University.

It is the fifth state government engineering college of Assam and first in Barak Valley.
