Admission

For its Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) leading to a PhD in Management, IIM Indore seeks high-quality candidates with strong academic background, preferably with professional experience, and intellectual curiosity needed for scholarship in management. The last date for submission of online application is February 17, 2020.

Eligibility (Work Experience and Academic)

Candidates must have a Minimum 5 years of managerial/ entrepreneurial/ professional experience after graduation as on the application deadline date (i.e. February 17, 2020) and also fulfil the requirement of the academic eligibility as mentioned below:

Master’s degree in any discipline with at least 60 percent aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average.

Postgraduate Diploma (2 years) with at least 60 percent aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average.

(OR)

Professional qualifications CA, ICWA, CS (with at least 50 percent aggregate marks) along with a B.Com/ Degree (with at least 60 percent aggregate marks).

A five year integrated Master’s degree program in any discipline, with at least 60 percent aggregate marks or equivalent grade point average.

 (OR)

First Class/ equivalent Bachelor’s degree (4 year/8 semesters) with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent.

Note:

1. In addition to the above academic eligibility, minimum 60 percent marks in Secondary (Class X) and minimum 55 percent marks in Senior Secondary (Class XII) is required.

Acceptable Standard Test Scores

Candidates require a standard test score, from any one of the acceptable tests (test taken in the calendar year 2015 onwards only will be considered) for the area(s) of specialization they are applying to, as shown in the following table.

Research Aptitude Test (RAT)*- In the event of not having a standard test score, candidate may apply based on the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) of IIM Indore which will be conducted on Saturday March 14, 2020.

Application Procedure

Candidates seeking admission to the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) of IIM Indore should submit their application online between the period Monday, January 01, 2020, to Monday, February 17, 2020, and pay the online non‐refundable/non-transferable application fee of Rs. 3000/- (Rupees Three thousand only) + GST extra.

Selection Process for EFPM 2020

The candidates will be shortlisted (on the recommendation of the respective areas) on the based information provided in the application form. The selection process is as follows:

Stage 1: The candidates satisfying the academic eligibility criteria as mentioned above should submit their application online.

Stage 2: Based on the applications received, candidates satisfying Academic eligibility criteria and acceptable standard test the shortlisting will be done by the respective Areas and candidates will be called for Personal Interview (PI), to be conducted at IIM Indore during March/ April 2020.

Note: Candidates who are applying based on the Research Aptitude Test (RAT) of IIM Indore which will be conducted on Saturday March 14, 2020 will be required to be present in the IIM Indore campus on the test day by 8:30 am, shortlisting of the test will be will be published on the same day i.e. March 14, 2020. Candidates shortlisted after the RAT will be appearing for the Interview either on the same day or on March 15, 2020.

Stage 3: IIM Indore also expects a consistent and minimum performance in the different parameters of Personal Interview (PI), which will be decided by Admissions Committee. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in any of PI parameters will not be considered for the next stage of the selection process i.e. Stage-4.

Stage 4: Final selection will be based on the requirements of the academic area to which the candidate has applied and an area-wise offer list will be prepared by the Areas only.

A candidate can submit the On-line application with all the attachments as required on or before Monday, 17^th February, 2020 up to 23:55:00 hours.

Programme Detail(s)

Total Fee for the Programme

The total fee for the course is Rs. 9,80,000/-(Rs. Nine Lakh Eighty Thousand only), as applicable at the time of admission payable in the following manner:

• Acceptance fee Rs.80,000/-(Rs. Eighty Thousand only) non-refundable payable before commencement of the programme in the academic year into which he/she is selected for admission.
• The balance Rs. 9,00,000/- (Nine Lakhs only) must be deposited in four instalments in the following manner :a) 1st instalment –  Rs. 3,00,000/-b) 2nd instalment – Rs. 2,00,000/-c) 3rd instalment – Rs. 2,00,000/-d) 4th instalment – Rs. 2,00,000/-

Each instalment has to be made 03 weeks before the start of the course module of the programme.

Programme Duration

The programme duration is three years. Candidates should ensure that they complete the requirements of the programme within this stipulated time.  In case candidate is not able to complete the programme in three years, they can be given two extensions of 6 months each depending upon their progress.

Continuation Fee

The students who go beyond the above stipulated time may be allowed to continue in the programme depending upon their progress and with payment of continuation fee but not beyond 06 years as under:

1. After completion of 04 years into the programme, the EFPM participant may be allowed by FPM Executive Committee to continue in the programme after reviewing his/her thesis progress report and recommendation of TAC on six monthly extension basis for a period of one year subject to payment of a continuation fee of Rs. 25,000/- every 06 months.
2. After completion of 05 years into the programme, the EFPM participant shall be required to make an appeal to Director for further grant of extension by submitting his/her thesis progress report and plan of action duly approved by TAC. In the event of grant of extension by Director, such participant may be allowed to continue in the programme on a six monthly extension basis for a period of maximum of one year subject to payment of a continuation fee of Rs. 50,000/- every 06 months.
3. Beyond 06 years there will be no consideration of any further extension and the participant shall be required to withdraw from the programme compulsorily.

The full time Doctoral Programme in Management (PhD) of IIM Shillong is meant for scholars with curiosity in knowledge related to management studies. PhD (full time) Programme Outline

The participant is expected to spend four years for PhD (full time) program that includes two years of rigorous course work. The coursework aims at providing an understanding of management disciplines, building theoretical foundations in the core area, develop basic skills for analyzing managerial problems and instill research interest. The coursework is expected to provide the participant with the platform for future research activities. The participant is evaluated through a Comprehensive Examination after the successful completion of course work; the doctoral dissertation period begins only after the participant successfully clearing the comprehensive examination. From third year onwards, the doctoral dissertation work provides the participant with an opportunity to make original contribution to an area of management in
general or to one of its disciplines.

Eligibility:

Candidates should have:
 A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 60% aggregate Marks/equivalent CGPA for General Candidates (including EWS), 55% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for SC/ST Candidates.

  CA, ICWA/CMA or CS with B. Com /similar degree.

 Additionally, each applicant needs to qualify Secondary, Higher Secondary and Graduation Examination with minimum 60% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for General Candidates, 50% aggregate marks/ equivalent CGPA for SC/ST Candidates.

Test Scores:

Candidates require a valid test score either of GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE, or JRF (NET) score to be considered for admission. Candidates should mandatorily provide the score card as applicable to the test taken.
a) GMAT Applicants: Applicants who have taken GMAT may upload/submit a copy of their official GMAT scores along with the application. Applicants who have not received the official score card from GMAC, should upload/submit the TEST TAKER COPY along with the application, but submit the OFFICIAL SCORE CARD before the interviews.
b) GRE Applicants: Applicants who have taken the GRE may upload/submit a copy of their GRE scores along with the application. Applicants who have not received the official score card from ETS, should upload/submit the TEST TAKER COPY along with the application, but submit the OFFICIAL SCORE CARD before the interviews.
c) CAT Applicants: They should provide their CAT 2018/ 2019 registration number in the online application. The CAT 2018, 2019 scores made available to IIM Shillong will be used in the assessment of the application.
d) GATE Applicants: Applicants who have taken the GATE may upload/submit a copy of their GATE score card along with the application. Applicants who appear for GATE 2020 should upload/submit the admit card along with the online application, but submit the SCORE CARD before the interviews.
e) JRF (NET): Applicants who have qualified for award of JRF (NET) can also apply within the validity of JRF (NET), and upload/submit the relevant documents. 

Selection Process:

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria stated above and who cleared either of the CAT (2018/2019), GATE, GRE, GMAT and JRF (UGC/CSIR) examinations till 27th January 2020 can apply for the full-time doctoral program. All scores must be valid as on 27th January 2020.

Short-listed candidates (on the basis of their academic record and performance in the competitive examinations mentioned above) will be called for an evaluation/personal interview for final selection. The successful candidates will receive offers to join the course by May 2020. 

Admission to the programme is open to overseas candidates including NRIs and foreign nationals. Their admission will be based on GMAT/GRE scores which are valid till 27th January 2020.

Reservation:

Reservation for eligible categories will be as per Government of India rules (as applicable to IIM Shillong) for the full time doctoral programme at the time of admission.

Duration of the Programme and Accommodation:

Scholars are expected to complete the programme in four years. However, under special circumstances, extension of one more year may be granted if approved by the competent authority. No financial support will however be provided beyond fourth year. PhD scholars will spend their the first two years for course work and the last two years for research and thesis preparation. PhD (full time) is a residential programme.

Hostel facility is available for all the PhD (full time) students; however, family accommodation is currently not available.

Financial Support:
Candidates selected for the full time Doctoral Programme are given a financial support which covers their research requirements and modest living.

A candidate is eligible to submit applications to a maximum of two areas. The process of filing application is to be done in two parts:
1. The application form (available for download from the link below) should be filled up and submitted online. The form should be opened using Acrobat Reader only and submitted by clicking on “Submit Form” Button available on top right of the screen. (Click Here to download Adobe Reader). No photograph needs to be attached on the online submitted form.

If the candidate’s computer is configured with a mail client, the form will get submitted on clicking the “Submit Form” button. In case the candidate is using web mail accounts like Gmail, Hotmail, etc., the “Submit Form” button will allow the candidate to save the form and attach it to a mail. In such case, the attachment should be sent to phd@iimshillong.ac.in

The candidates are requested to be careful while filling in the form and to check the same before submitting it. In case any candidate submits the form more than once, the first such submission will only be considered.

2. The candidates should take a print of the online form before submitting the same. If the candidate is applying for two areas, two copies must be printed. The printed copy (ies) of the online application form, one for each area, with a recent photograph pasted and with all supporting documents (including self-attested copies of mark sheet and certificates of all public examinations starting from 10th, experience certificate, relevant score card, age proof, etc.) attached separately with each form will have to be sent together in one envelop. The envelope containing the filled in application with all required documents should be clearly superscribed “Application for PhD (fulltime) program 2020)”. • Graduation with minimum 55% aggregate marks for General Candidates. 5% relaxation will be given to reserved category candidates.
• A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks, 5% relaxation will be given to reserved category candidates.

• Graduation along with Professional qualifications of CA, ICWA and CS with at least 55% marks or equivalent.

The above qualification should be from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 or, recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Test Scores and its Validity

IIM Shillong will consider valid scores of GMAT, GRE, CAT, GATE or JRF (NET) for
admission to PhD (WP) program. Valid score need to be entered while filling the application form.
The following categories of candidates are to be exempted from standard tests stated above but will be required to produce two reference letters from senior leadership.
A. Graduates of PGP programs (2 year fulltime) of IIMs or reputed institutions with CGPA 6.5 out of 10 or equivalent (minimum 5 years of post PGP experience).
OR
B. Government employees of Central/ State/ Civil Services/PSUs/Autonomous Bodies with more than 10 years of administrative experience.
OR
C. Teachers from institutions of higher education with last qualification from a reputed institution and minimum 10 years of teaching experience with proven research acumen.
OR
D. Individuals with at least 10 years of rich managerial experience from the nongovernment sector.

Programme Duration

The minimum commitment to the programme is 3 years, but candidates are expected to complete the programme in four years and ensure that they complete the requirements of the programme within this stipulated time. In case candidate is not able to complete the programme in four years, they can be given two extensions of 6 months each depending upon their progress.

Curriculum and Course Work

During the coursework, classes will be held in IIM Shillong campus. Accommodation and fooding charges will be extra if Campus accommodation is available and is availed by a candidate. The on-campus course work will have three modules in the first year and one module in the second year. First year courses will be having 9 credits distributed over three modules named:-
 Fundamental Courses in Management – I (Module I)
 Fundamental Courses in Management – II (Module II)
 Fundamental Courses in Managerial Research (Module III)

In the second year there will be 3 credits of course work.

• Advanced Courses in Managerial Research (Module IV)

For the batch commencing from June 2020:-

• In Module I (tentatively June 2020), one visit of 14- 21 days
• In Module II (tentatively Nov-Dec 2020), one visit of 14-21 days
• In Module III (tentatively June 2021), one visit of 14-21days
• In Module IV (tentatively Nov- Dec 2021), one visit of 14-21 days

For the batch commencing from January 2021:-

• In Module I (tentatively January-February 2021), one visit of 14- 21 days
• In Module II (tentatively June-July 2021), one visit of 14-21 days
• In Module III (tentatively January- February 2022), one visit of 14-21days
• In Module IV (tentatively June-July 2022), one visit of 14-21 days

Schedules will be intimated to the students tentatively one month before the start of each module. All course are compulsory. The participants must have a minimum attendance of 60%.

During Module III, the candidate in consultation with the PhD Chairperson/Committee will be required to initiate the process of formation of his/her Thesis Supervisory Committee (TSC) as per the laid down norms of the Institute.

COMPREHENSIVE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (CQE)

After the completion of the requirement the candidate needs to qualify the
Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE) to proceed to the second phase of the programme.

The candidate who do not qualify the exam shall be given a second chance to qualify for the second phase.

The candidate will be required to obtain an overall CGPA of 2.2 or above for clearing the Course work in (Term I, II and III).

Second Year

After successful completion of the course work the participant will start working on the main research problem of the PhD thesis under the guidance of his/her TSC.

S/he will start preparing a proposal under the guidance of his/her TSC. From the second year onwards after successful completion of all the four module still submission of the draft thesis, the participants are expected to make regular visits. A minimum of four days of visit to the institute in a quarter is mandated.

The participant must submit progress report forwarded by the TSC chairperson to the programme office every six months.

Third Year Onwards

The participants are also expected to work towards presenting papers at a
conference and/or making publications in research journals approved by the
institute.

The participants will present the draft thesis in an open seminar, called Presubmission Seminar, after the TSC clears the draft for the same. The draft
Thesis will be modified based on comments received from the TSC and the audience of the public seminar.

The candidate will have to defend the thesis and then submits the duly modified thesis for evaluation. Once evaluated, the candidate will have to defend the Thesis before the examiners to be eligible for the award of the degree.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer) and Persons-with-Disabilities will be given a 5% relaxation in the minimum marks requirement.

Additional eligibility criteria for the Strategic Management Area:

1. The Strategic Management Area would have a minimum work experience of 15 years (full time) after graduation. The experience of heading a business unit or company or a large department or functional division/unit is preferred.
2. Participants would submit letters of recommendation from Senior Leadership along with their application.

Selection: Candidates will be short listed on the recommendation of respective areas based on their Profile. Such candidates will be invited for a Personal Interview (and/or Written Test for selected areas if any) at IIM Kozhikode. Accommodation will be available to the candidates (on concessional rate) inside campus for attending the interviews

PhD in Management (Practice Track) - Full Details

The PhD in Management (Practice Track) of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) provides rigorous, world-class, inter-disciplinary training in different areas of business management to equip students with the ability to conduct cutting-edge research of international standard. The executive participants of this programme enrich business knowledge armed with their industry experience and academic exposure.

The aim of the programme is to help industry executives explore research based careers at both academic institutions as well as research roles in public/private sector organizations.

Curriculum

PhD in Management (Practice Track) at IIMK has two phases: course work and thesis research. The first year divided into Terms 0, 1 and 2 covers the course work. The participant begins her/his work towards thesis reseach in the second year after qualifying the Comprehensive Qualifying Examination.

First Year

• Term 0 (tentatively July – September) is optional for participants with a PGDM/EPGDM/MBA degree/diploma but compulsory for all others.
• All courses in Term 0 are compulsory.
• Philosophy of Management and Research Methodology are compulsory in Term I. Participants must join in any two of the three courses of Econometrics, Multivariate Analysis and Qualitative Research in Term I.
• Classes will be conducted in the IIMK campus. The participants have an attendance requirement of 50%.
• In Term 0 (tentatively July-September), the two visits would consist of 10 and 12 days respectively.
• In Term 1 (tentatively, October-March), the participants are expected to undertake three visits. Each visit would be for a period of 8 days starting Saturday of a week to ending on a Sunday of week.
• In Term 2 (tentatively April-September), the participants are expected to make two to three visits ranging from 12 days to 24 days altogether.
• During the coursework, campus accommodation will be provided by the Institute.

Second Year

Area Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE)

Successful completion of the first phase requires passing the Area Comprehensive Qualifying Examination (CQE) to proceed to the second phase of programme. In the second phase participants undertake thesis research work with a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) which comprises three faculty members. The RAC Chair must be from the chosen area.

Visits to the Campus

From the second year onwards till submission of the draft thesis, the participants are expected to make regular visits. A minimum of four days of visit in a quarter is mandated. However, the participant/RAC has the flexibility to convert the quarterly mandated visits into a single visit every semester.

Main Research Problem

From the second year onwards, after satisfactory completion of the CQE, the participant will start working on the main research problem of the PhD thesis. The participant must submit a progress report forwarded by the RAC chairperson during the registration each term.

Third Year Onwards

The participant should present an Open Proposal Seminar on the research problem. The participant is also expected to work towards presenting a paper at a conference and/or making one publication.

The participant will present the draft thesis in an open seminar, called Pre-submission Seminar, after the RAC clears the draft for the same. Thesis will be modified based on comments received from the RAC and the audience of the seminar. The duly modified draft thesis may be submitted for evaluation.

Progamme Fees

The total fee for the course is Rs. 6,50,000/- (Rupees Six Lakh Fifty Thousand only).

The fee may be paid in the following two instalments:

• Acceptance fee Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) non-refundable
• The balance of Rs. 6,00,000/- (Rupees Six Lakh only) before commencement of the first class.

For the participants attending term zero courses, the fee may be paid in the following three instalments:

• Acceptance fee Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) non-refundable
• The second instalment of Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh only) payable before commencement of the first class in term zero.
• The third instalment of Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakh only) payable before commencement of the first class in term one.

Other Fee Requirements:

Other fees payable by PhD (Practice Track) participants at the time of admission are the following:

• Candidates will have to pay Rs. 250/- towards campus accommodation when they visit campus without any classes.

Re-registration Fee: If the participant fails to submit by the fifth year, s/he will have to pay a re-registration fee of Rs. 2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh only) for completing the programme in the sixth and the seventh year. Beyond the seventh year, the candidate shall cease to be part of the programme.
