Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme starting in July 2019 (Autumn 2019) under Full time, and Sponsored (part-time) categories.

Categories of Ph. D. Students:

I. Full Time: Scholars under this category shall work full time for the Ph.D. courses/research. They may receive fellowship offered by the Institute as per MHRD norms / TEQIP guidelines or other funding agencies. http://nitmeghalaya.in/nitmeghalaya/p/ph-d-scholarships

II Sponsored (part-time): Employees from Industries, Corporate Houses, Research and Development (R&D) Organizations and Faculties of Senior Colleges with minimum working experience of 5 years, out of which 2 years should be from the current organization, will be eligible for applying to the Sponsored (Part Time) Ph.D. Programme. Candidates are not entitled to receive any fellowship or other financial assistance from Institute.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission into Ph. D. Programme:

A. For Full Time Scholars: Master’s degree in Engineering/ Science/ Technology/ Humanities and Social Sciences/ Management Sciences/ or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% (55% in case of Humanities and Social Sciences) marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree. Candidates with B.E. / B. Tech. with an aggregate of 75% marks or equivalent GPA with valid GATE score will also be eligible.

B. For Sponsored (Part Time Scholars): Master’s degree in Engineering/ Science/ Technology/ Humanities and Social Sciences/ Management Sciences/ or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% (55% in case of Humanities and Social Sciences) marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree. Candidates with B.E. / B. Tech. with an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA are eligible. Candidate’s age should not be more than 58. A certificate/declaration of sponsorship from the sponsoring body must be submitted by the applicant at the time of applying for application and admission process.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PWD Candidates:

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA for SC/ST/PWD category applicants as per GOI Norms.

Application Fees:

Application fees of Rs. 500/- for General/OBC and Rs. 250 for SC/ST candidates to be paid via online. No application fee to be paid by PWD candidates.

Selection Procedure:

Eligible candidates may be required to appear for a written test in respect of his/ her discipline. Shortlisted candidates based on performance in the written test will be called for interview.

How to Apply:

STEP:-1: Instructions for Payment Process using State Bank Collect (SBI Collect):

  1. Click on “Make Payment using SBI Collect” below.
  1. A DISCLAIMER CLAUSE page will open. Check the box for I have read and accepted the terms and conditions stated above and click on the PROCEED button.
  2. From the drop down menu, State of Corporate/Institution, select Meghalaya.
  3. From the drop down menu, Type of Corporate/Institution, select Educational Institutions. Click on the GO button.
  4. From the drop down menu, Educational Institutions Name, select NIT MEGHALAYA FEE COLLECTION. Click on the SUBMIT button.
  5. A page for details of payment will open. Under Select Payment Category, select APPLICATION FEES.
  6. Please read the complete page carefully.
  7. A page to verify details and confirm this transaction will appear. Click on the CONFIRM button if your details are correct.
  8. You will be directed to payment page
  9. Complete the payment process by selecting the mode of payment that you wish
  10. Save Reference number and date of payment  for filling the online Application.

STEP II: Submission online Application Form:

Go To application Form 

  • Login the application and fill reference no assigned during the payment (example: BKIDN17007356407), payment date (example:ddmmyyyy) and other important application details.
  • Select category of application Full time/ Sponsored(Part-time)
  • If a candidate is applying for more than one department, the candidate must pay application fee separately to both applications and submit separate application to each department.
  • Candidates are advised to check the application in all aspects before pressing the submit button. Once the application is submitted and it cannot be modified.
  • Finally, a printout of the application is to be taken, by clicking on pop up “Print this Page”. Select Print Properties and Select Adobe PDF and Set properties as Layout and Portrait mode then click on Print .You require an Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 or higher

Step:III:  Hard Copy of  Submission of Application:  

The following documents (whichever is applicable) should be enclosed along with the printout of online application:

  1. A recent photograph of the candidate is to be fixed on space provided in the application.
  2. Self attested copy of Payment proof.
  3. Statement of Purpose (SoP) indicating the area and type of research work he/ she proposes to carry out.
  4. Self attested copy of Educational qualifications Mark sheets and certificates as per filled online application form.
  5. Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar).
  6. Self attested copy of latest community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating that the candidate does not belong to the Creamy Layer for the financial year ending 31st March 2018.
  7. Sponsorship certificate from their employers in the prescribed format  (link to appear) in case of sponsored Ph.D candidates
  8. Self attested copy of all research publications in Journals and Conferences (if /any).

The completed application along with required enclosures in a A4 size envelope by mentioning “Application for Ph.D Programme under Full-time/Sponsored (Part time) category in —————– Department before the last date of Receipt of Application should reach to the following address.
