National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Guwahati

NIELIT Guwahati” is in operation w.e.f. 5th August’1998, in the name & style of “CEDTI Tezpur” after signing of an MOU between Tezpur University & erstwhile Dept. of Electronics, Govt. of India. The centre started its operations from the Tezpur University campus at Na Paam near Tezpur. However, due to operational difficulties, the location was later shifted to Law College Campus, Tezpur.

In 2002, the CEDTI, Tezpur has been re-named as “CEDTI, North East (Upper)” with area of operation extending to the states of Assam , Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim and to initially function from Guwahati and Tezpur with administrative set up at Guwahati. After the merger of CEDTI’s with DOEACC Society (except CEDTI, Mohali) in December’2002, the centre was renamed as DOEACC Centre Guwahati/ Tezpur and later on as the “DOEACC Society Guwahati/ Tezpur Centre”. In October’2011, DOEACC Society was renamed as “National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology” in sort “NIELIT” and the centre is thus renamed as “NIELIT Guwahati”.

In April’ 2012, the union cabinet has approved a project of the Dept. of Electronics & Information Tecnology (DeitY), Govt. of India, “Development of the North Eastern Region by enhancing Training/ Education capacity in the IECT Area” under which 6 (six) existing NIELITs of the NE region located at Imphal, Aizawl, Guwahati, Shillong, Gangtok, Itanagar are to be upgraded as NIELITs with own campus and also create/upgrade 12 (twelve) Extensions Centres in the entire NE region in order to increase training capacity of the NIELITs in the NE region from existing 3,080 to 14,400 per annum at the end of 5(five) years. Of the 12 (twelve) Extension Centres, 5 (five) are to be commissioned in Assam at locations Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar and Silchar under NIELIT Guwahati.

Therefore, the present centres at Guwahati & Tezpur are now renamed as “NIELIT Guwahati” and “NIELIT Extension Centre -Tezpur” respectively. The “NIELIT Extension Centres at Jorhat & Silchar along with a Guwahati City Centre are operational in temporary rented premises since August’2013. The Govt. of Assam has been requested to provide land free of csot at all these locations for setting up of the permanent campuses. 5 Acres of land has been already allotted for the Kokrajhar Extension Centre where construction work is expected to start from September-October’2013. Land has been identified at Guwahati, Jorhat, Silchar & Tezpur (except at Dibrugarh) by the Govt. of Assam which are likely to be allotted to NIELIT shortly.

Presently NIELIT has established a Centre in all the state capitals of the NE region and accordingly the jurisdiction of NIELIT Guwahati is now restricted to the state of Assam only.

National Power Training Institute, North Eastern Region, Guwahati

National Power Training Institute, North Eastern Region has been set up by the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India in the year 2003 at its temporary institute building at ASEB Complex, Narengi, Guwahati-26. At the beginning NPTI-NER conducted induction level training programs for ASEB Jr. Managers / Assistant Mangers and short term training programs. In the month of August 2008, NPTI-NER started 1st batch of 52-weeks PGDC and 26-week course on “Operation & Maintenance of Transmission & Distribution Systems” w.e.f.November 2008 at its old station i.e. Narengi Campus.

NPTI-NER had shifted its establishment on 1st July 2009 and started in full swing at its own campus at Kahilipara, comprising 16 acres of land, which is 10 Kms., from Guwahati Railway Station and 30 Kms., from G.B. International Air Port, Guwahati. Taxi, Auto rickshaws and City buses are available at Railway Station & Airport to reach NPTI-NER. This institute was formally inaugurated on 30th October 2009 by Shri Shusilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, Govt. of India in presence of Shri H. S. Brahma, IAS, Secretary, MOP, GOI; Shri Pradyut Bardoloi, Hon’ble Ministerof Power, Govt. of Assam; Shri A. K. Sachan, IAS, Chairman, ASEB; Shri I. P. Barooah, CMD, NEEPCO; Shri S. K. Garg, CMD, NHPC; Shri Gurdial Singh, Member (Planning), CEA & Dr. N.S.Saxena,Director General,NPTI. NPTI (North Eastern Region) Guwahati plays an important role in the field of HRD in the Power Sector as an pioneer Institute in the North Eastern Region and NPTI-NER has trained many Power Sector personnel in technical and managerial skill development programs including various professional and academic courses. Presently, NPTI-NER, Guwahati is conducting three long-term training programs viz PGDC(52 weeks),PDC(52 weeks) and T&D-O&M(26 weeks). Other short-term/need based training programs are also organized during the calendar year depending upon the requirements of Power sector utilities. NPTI students are getting ample opportunities for theoretical and practical training at various Power stations,Sub-Stations,Manufacturing Plants, PSTI, CPRI, HLTC, Simulator & GIS laboratory at NPTI-HQ, Faridabad.

Tool Room & Training Centre, Guwahati

Tool Room & Training Centre, Guwahati has been established by Government of India to cater tooling and training need of Industries of North Eastern Region.The State Government of Assam has provided the land as well as initial building to the Tool Room. TRTC has been registered as Government of India Society on 24th February 2000.It is situated at Amingaon Industrial Area, North Guwahati Road, Guwahati-781031. It is a sprawing campus with Administrative Block, Training Block, Modern Workshop, Knowledge Centre, Staff Quarters and Hostel.

The management of the affairs of the Centre rests with the Governing Council constituted by Government of India. Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner (MSME), Government of India, is the President of the Society and the Chairman of the Governing Council.

The training department provides quality training in the field of Design with CAD/CAM/CNC Machining with latest high-tech software’s , Machine Tool Operation, Precision Machining, Welding Technology, IT, PLC etc. The production wing manufactures press tools, moulds, jigs & fixtures, gauges and other precision components as per the needs of the industries.

In pursuit of excellence, Tool Room & Training Centre, Guwahati has been awarded with an IS/ISO 9001:2015, and IS/ISO 14001:2015 certifications.

North Eastern Farm machinery Testing and Training Institute (NER-FMTTI)

The North Eastern Farm machinery Testing and Training Institute or (NER-FMTTI) is situated in Biswanath Chariali of Sonitpur District, Assam, India. and, surrounded by lush tea gardens, its green envirenment has turned out to be suitable for training and testing of farm equipments. The Institute which was established some twenty years back with the noble cause that, the North Eastern States having the high potentiality to become self-sufficient in agricultural production, started in the difficult situation, have now grown up to its adolescent age and spreading appropriate mechanization and technology to almost all type of beneficiaries. In these past twenty years, we have equipped with all sorts of modern equipment needed for effective training methodology and conducting testing as per BIS norms. The Institute have achieved significant target in training, testing and mechanised farming.

Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship

The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) was established in the year 1993 in Guwahati by the erstwhile Ministry of Industry (now the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Government of India as an autonomous national institute with an aim to undertake training, research and consultancy activities in small and micro enterprises focusing on entrepreneurship development.

The institute began operating from April 1994 with the North East Council (NEC), Governments of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland and SIDBI as its other stakeholders. It is also An ISO 9001:2008 Certified Organisation.

Objectives

  • To promote and develop entrepreneurship.
  • To conduct research and provide consultancy for entrepreneurship development.
  • To coordinate and collaborate with other organizations in undertaking training, research and other activities to increase outreach of the institute.
  • To provide consultancy and monitoring service to MSMEs/ potential entrepreneurs and enhancing employability of participants.
  • To promote greater use of information technology in the activities/ functions of the IIE.
  • To comply with statutory responsibility.
